Ensure prompt Public Service Delivery , Redress Public Grievances in a Time Bound Manner: Advisor Baseer Khan directs Officers

January 21: Advisor to Honble LG Baseer Ahmad Khan today visited Anantnag and took a first hand and holistic post snowfall review of the twin districts of Anantnag and Kulgam. Affirming the Government’s commitment of strengthening transparency and accountability in governance, Khan emphasized upon the government functionaries to work with zeal and dedication for providing all basic public services in a smooth and hassle free manner while addressing public grievances in a time bound manner. Taking a thorough review of essential services like power supply, drinking water, snow clearance, health care and medicine, ration and cooking gas supply, the Advisor observed that all available resources must be mobilized effectively for greater public convenience.

Highlighting the importance of PRI members viz DDCs, BDCs, Sarpanches etc, Khan directed the concerned officers to involve them in welfare schemes of Govt,during diasaters, etc besides training them properly in this regard.This, he said, would ensure effective devolution of power to the grass roots level and strengthening of local self governance. He informed that the recent tour & training programme of the elected PRI members outside the UT was organised with this motive. The Advisor directed for maintenance & restoration of the power supply to essential services like hospitals, water supply schemes etc on priority basis and ensure that the lines remain intact during adverse weather. He also directed the officers of PDD to publicise the curtailment schedule in a transparent manner and strictly abide by it.

He directed for effective provision of MDM, ration and other essentials to AWCs, pension to old aged people, specially Abled, widows etc, prompt payment to MGNREGA workers and PMAYG beneficiaries and quality health care to the general people. To prevent damage to life and property of the vulnerable groups as well as the general public, Khan asked the concerned officers to issue timely advisories in view of possible snow avalanches, floods, increasing fire incidents and predicted heavy snowfall. In view of spurt in tourists' arrival in Pahalgam owing to heavy snowfall, Khan directed for effective road clearance, proper power & water supply etc there to cater to the the needs of the tourists.

He also reviewed the functioning of the Disaster Centres built along National Highway and expressed his satisfaction for their timely use for the stranded truckers, passengers etc. He also stressed for proper monitoring and disposal of grievances recieved on LGs grievance portal and informed that Honble LG is personally monitoring the redressal mechanism. Taking a brief overview of COVID-19 vaccination programme, the Advisor stressed for proper awareness to the people to strongly counter the misconception and misinformation campaign about the vaccine.

He urged people not to lower the guard & follow all the Covid_19 guidelines as the pandemic has not ended yet. Meanwhile, DDC Anantnag Sh. Anshul Garg(IAS) & DDC Kulgam Showkat Ajaz presented the performance and response of the Districts to the recent adverse weather and heavy snowfall while highlighting the work done during the unprecedented situation. They informed that all the essential services were timely restored through the formulation of prompt and effective response mechanism with full coordination among line departments including JK Police , setting up of round the clock control rooms at District, Subdivision and Tehsil level while ensuring the PRI members are involved both actively and passively.

It is important to mention that the Advisor lauded the efforts of civil and Police administrations of both the districts for their commendable work during the heavy snowfall. Later, several delegations from civil society, general public etc met the Advisor & apprised him about their demands and grievances. Khan gave a patient hearing & issued on spot directions to the concerned for timely redressal of their genuine demands. Among others CE KPDCL,ADCs & SPs of both districts, heads, engineers & field functionaries of the concerned departments were present on the occasion.
